Maize has been a proven fishing bait for decades. Whether you target carp, bream, tench or roach, maize is a versatile and affordable bait. Its bright yellow colour, sweet scent and soft texture make it effective as hookbait and loose feed.
Why is maize so effective?
Maize contains natural sugars and starches that many fish find attractive. The bright colour stands out well on dark bottoms and in coloured water, while the bait is easy to digest so fish often keep returning to the feeding spot.

Different ways to use maize
- Hookbait: use soft tinned maize directly on the hook or hair.
- Loose feed: add maize to groundbait or feed it loose on your swim.
- Float fishing: tinned maize is ideal for fishing with a float.
- Feeder fishing: mix maize with particles, pellets or groundbait.
- Flavoured maize: choose garlic, scopex, strawberry or vanilla when extra attraction is needed.
Preparing hard maize
- Soak the maize for at least 24 hours in plenty of water.
- Boil for 20 to 40 minutes until the grains soften.
- Let it cool in the cooking liquid for extra attraction.
- Optionally add salt, sweetener or attractors after cooking.
Important: dry maize must always be soaked and cooked properly before use.
