What is a pellet waggler rod?

A pellet waggler rod is a short, powerful match rod with which you fish using a special, pre-weighted float – the pellet waggler. This float is designed to present pellets slowly sinking in the upper water layers. By shooting a few pellets every half minute with a catapult, you create a continuous food stimulus and food competition underwater. This attracts carp to your hook bait and significantly increases your catch chance.

When do you use a pellet waggler?

This technique works best in the warmer months, at water temperatures from 20°C. Especially on sunny days when carp are higher in the water, the pellet waggler is an absolute recommendation. Ideal for shallow ponds, commercial waters or carp pits, but also effective on smaller public waters.

The right rig and bait

For fishing with a pellet waggler you usually use a float of 4 to 10 grams, depending on wind and distance. The bait – usually a soft pellet – is mounted on a bait band next to the hook. You fish with a short leader and ensure your bait pellet sinks naturally, just like the feed pellets. Waggler floats are often pre-weighted, so extra weight is not necessary.

Which rod do you need?

A pellet waggler rod is usually 3 to 3.60 meters long and has a strong parabolic action. This gives you enough backbone to drill larger fish, but enough finesse to cast accurately. Combine your rod with a match reel (size 3000–4000) and nylon line of 0.22 to 0.25 mm for optimal control.
