For vertical fishing, you can choose a light reel or a compact baitcaster (reel). A reel in size 1000 to 2500 is perfectly balanced with most vertical rods. If you go for a baitcaster, you need a rod with a trigger grip for optimal grip and control. Always ensure that rod and reel or spinning reel are well balanced – this makes fishing more accurate and less tiring.
Preferably use a thin, round braided line of 0.06 to 0.08 mm. This cuts nicely through the water and provides maximum sensitivity. Combine this with a fluorocarbon leader and you are ready to vertical fish like a pro.
