The right fishing line makes a major difference when targeting trout. Trout can be cautious and have good eyesight, so a subtle and well-chosen line helps improve presentation and bite detection.
Nylon, braid and fluorocarbon
Nylon is forgiving, affordable and ideal for float rigs and many beginner setups. Braided line offers direct contact and sensitivity for active techniques. Fluorocarbon is abrasion-resistant and nearly invisible under water, making it a strong choice for hooklengths and cautious fish.
Choose based on technique
For classic float fishing, nylon line in a light diameter is often the safest choice. For active Tremarella or lure fishing, braid with a fluorocarbon leader can offer sensitivity and subtle presentation.
