Choose the right carp rod for your fishing
Whether you are targeting long distances or actively hunting carp with a float, the right carp rod makes the difference. The choice is huge and depends heavily on your fishing style, the conditions at the waterside, and the fishing technique you use. For example, will you fish statically with heavy lead rigs or prefer light and mobile with a pole rod? There is a suitable rod for every situation.
Carp rod and reel: a golden combination
A good carp rod really comes into its own in combination with the right carp reel. Anglers who actively fish on smaller waters often choose a short rod with a light reel. For long distances and heavy work, such as on large rivers or canals, a robust reel with a high retrieve speed is indispensable. Make sure rod and reel are well balanced – this way you fish not only more comfortably but also more efficiently.
Complete carp rod sets: all in one
Do you want to get started quickly and worry-free? Then a complete carp rod set is ideal. These sets often contain two or three rods with matching reels, rodpod, bite alarms, and all necessary accessories. Everything is coordinated by experienced carp anglers, so you can start right at the waterside. Perfect for beginners or anglers who want a complete upgrade in one go.
Bottom fishing with the carp rod
The most popular way of carp fishing is static fishing from the bottom with boilies. The carp rod is then firmly placed in a rodpod, and a free spool reel ensures that the carp can take line when it bites. As soon as the fish hooks itself on the lead, you hear the bite alarm and the fight can begin. These rods are often somewhat heavier and have a test curve of 2.5 to 3 lbs, making them suitable for most situations.
Test curve and casting weight
Carp rods do not indicate a casting weight but a test curve in LBS. A rod of 3 lbs, for example, bends 90 degrees under a load of 1.36 kg. This roughly corresponds to a casting weight of 105 grams. The heavier the lead and the longer the rod, the further you can cast. Choose the test curve based on your fishing spot: on still water, 2.5 lbs is often sufficient; on flowing water or near obstacles, a heavier rod is recommended.
Pole rods for the active angler
For those who like to be mobile and fish specifically for carp with a float, the pole rod is an excellent choice. These light and sensitive rods provide maximum control during the fight and make the fishing particularly exciting. Note that with this technique you use a lighter reel and rig.
