Stalking & Float Carp Rods

Stalking & Float Rods: exciting carp fishing up close

Fishing with a pole or stalker rod is perhaps the purest and most exciting form of carp fishing. Instead of waiting passively for a bite, you actively search for carp yourself. You sneak up on the fish, present your bait subtly, and feel every fight right in your handle. This way of fishing requires specific rods that are light, sensitive, and at the same time powerful enough to land a big carp.

The perfect float rod for your fishing

A float rod is on average between 3.60 and 3.90 meters long and has a test curve between 1.25 and 2 lbs. Due to the parabolic action, the rod bends deeply into the handle, giving you maximum control during the fight, even up close. Extra many guide rings ensure the line runs neatly along the curve of the rod. Pole rods are ideal for fishing with a float along reed edges, bridges, or obstacles, and also very suitable for fishing with floating bait such as bread or dog biscuits.

Tip: feed a few spots and fish them one by one. This significantly increases your chance of success.

Pole rod set: complete and matched

Are you just starting out or want to get going well prepared? Then choose a complete pole rod set. This often consists of a pole rod, a light reel in size 4000, and suitable nylon line around 0.26 mm. Pay particular attention to a smooth drag, because carp are powerful and the fight can be explosive. With such a set, you are sure of well-matched materials and can go straight to the waterside.

Stalker rods: agile and powerful

For those fishing at small, hard-to-reach spots or among overhanging branches, a stalker rod is ideal. These rods are shorter – up to 3.30 meters – and just a bit more powerful than a traditional pole rod. You cast more easily in limited space and have more control during the fight, especially at obstacle-rich spots.

Which rod suits your style?

The difference between pole and stalker rods is mainly in length and weight. Where the pole rod is designed for light and subtle fishing, the stalker rod focuses on powerful short-distance fishing. Choose a longer pole rod for open water or fishing under overhanging branches, and a shorter stalker rod for hard-to-access places. Do you often fish in water with obstacles? Then go for a somewhat heavier version for extra control.

Buying a pole rod? We help you choose

The range of pole and stalker rods may be more limited than that of standard carp rods, but with us you will only find carefully selected models from top brands such as Shimano, JRC, and Fox.
