Everything for Pelagic Fishing

Pelagic fishing is a modern, highly targeted technique in which you use a fishfinder or LiveScope to hunt individual predatory fish suspended in the water column. Instead of fishing blind, you locate the fish and present the lure directly in front of it. This makes pelagic fishing one of the most exciting ways to target large pike, zander and catfish.

Pelagic Rod

A short, powerful rod with a sensitive tip provides maximum lure control and lets you react instantly to a bite. Lengths between 1.90 and 2.10 metres are ideal.

Baitcasting Reel or Spinning Reel

A compact baitcasting reel is preferred because it makes one-handed fishing easy while you control the boat. A robust spinning reel is also an excellent choice.

Braided Mainline and Leader

Use a braided mainline of approximately 0.15 to 0.20 mm for maximum sensitivity. Pair it with a fluorocarbon or wire leader, depending on your target species.

Softbaits and Shads

Pelagic fishing is usually done with large softbaits between 14 and 25 cm, although larger models can also be highly effective for pike and catfish. Different colours and profiles let you adapt to the fish's response.

Jighead and Stinger

A heavy jighead keeps the lure stable at the required depth. A suitable stinger improves hook-ups without restricting the action of the shad.

Tips & Tricks

  • Focus on deep holes, drop-offs and shoals of baitfish.
  • Keep your lure visible on your fishfinder or LiveScope screen at all times.
  • Match the size of your shad to the target species.
  • Make subtle changes in speed when a fish follows the lure.
  • Use the lightest weight possible while retaining full control of the presentation.
