Fishing lines

Vislijnen sale

Mono, fluoro of gevlochten? Jij kiest, wij geven korting!

The fishing line is literally the connecting factor between you and your catch. Whether you are drilling a carp, hunting predatory fish, or trying to feel subtle bites while coarse fishing: without the right fishing line, catching becomes much more difficult. At De Goeie Vangst you will therefore only find quality lines in original factory packaging. No bulk rolls, no compromises. Only the best fishing lines for the sharpest price.

Which fishing line suits your fishing style?

There are roughly four types of fishing lines: nylon (monofilament), braided line (such as Dyneema), fluorocarbon, and fly fishing line. Each type has its own unique properties and advantages. Nylon is affordable and stretchable, which absorbs shocks well — ideal for beginners or fishing with a feeder. Braided line has no stretch, giving you direct contact with your bait. Perfect for predatory fish and fishing at a distance. Fluorocarbon is almost invisible in the water and therefore popular as a leader or subtle main line. Fly fishing lines are specially developed for casting flies, with a specific construction and weight.

Advantages and properties of nylon, braided, and fluorocarbon

Nylon fishing lines are flexible, easy to knot, and ideal for everyday use. Due to the stretch in the line, you have less chance of losing fish during the fight. The downside is that you feel bites less well. Braided lines consist of multiple fibers and are much stronger with a smaller diameter. This reduces the influence of wind and current. These lines have no stretch, so you feel every tap. Note: they are less abrasion-resistant, so in obstacle-rich water it is best to use a leader made of nylon or fluorocarbon.

Fluorocarbon is virtually invisible underwater due to its refractive index. Additionally, it is very abrasion-resistant and hardly kinks. It is somewhat stiffer than regular nylon and often a bit more expensive, but you get top quality in return.

Which color fishing line should you choose?

The color of your main line largely depends on personal preference, because in many cases you use a leader that is tailored to the fish and the water. If you choose a brightly colored line such as yellow or orange, you can perfectly see where your line hits the water — handy for fishing at a distance or night fishing. Fluorocarbon is the least visible line and ideal for shy fish in clear water. Nylon is a middle ground, while braided line is usually the most visible. Unsure? Our blog about fishing line colors offers more clarity.

What should you consider when buying a fishing line?

The most important property of a fishing line is the tensile strength. This determines how much load the line can handle before it breaks. Don’t just be guided by the diameter, because a thin line in braided versions can be just as strong as a thicker nylon variant. Also consider the type of fish you are targeting. Large fish such as pike or catfish require more tensile strength than a roach or perch.

Additionally, casting properties, visibility, abrasion resistance, and whether a line floats or sinks play a role in your choice. Do you often fish in obstacle-rich water? Then a line with high abrasion resistance such as fluorocarbon is indispensable. For long casts and direct contact, you rather choose a flexible, round braided line with multiple strands.
