Pintail Softbaits

Buy Pintail Softbaits

Pintail softbaits are slender lure fish with a thin, straight pointed tail. In contrast to shads with a paddle tail, they hardly cause pressure waves. The subtle movements imitate a weakened or calmly swimming baitfish and can therefore be particularly effective for cautious bass and zander.

Due to their natural presentation, pintails are ideal for clear or heavily fished waters. They also work great in cold water, when predatory fish are less active and often respond better to lures presented quietly. Also view our full range softbaits.

When Do You Use a Pintail?

A pintail comes into its own when fast moving lures produce few bites. The fine tail responds to small movements of the rod tip and to the current, without moving excessively.

Small pintails are suitable for targeted bass fishing. Medium and larger versions can be used for zander and pike. Natural colors are a good choice in clear water, while brighter colors provide more visibility in cloudy water and in low light.

Pintails For dropshotting

Pintail softbaits are very suitable as dropshot lures. The softbaits hangs above the bottom and can be kept almost in the same place with small taps. The thin tail keeps the bait moving subtly, even when you fish the rig slowly.

Combine the softbaits with a suitable one dropshot hook and a suitable one dropshot lead. Also view our complete collection dropshot lure.

Pintails For Vertical And Pelagic Fishing

In addition to dropshotting, you can use pintails for vertical, diagonal and pelagic fishing. Mount the bait straight on a jig head and fish it with short, controlled movements just above the bottom or around free-swimming predatory fish.

Because the tail causes little resistance, a pintail responds immediately to every movement. This gives you a lot of control and allows you to present the lure very precisely.
