With Carp R Us hooklink materials, choose between tying your own with Strip-X Coated Braid and using a premade stiff section with a Stiff Link. These serve different purposes: a Stiff Link alone is not a complete hooked rig.
Leave the coating on or strip a short section?
Strip-X comes on a 20-metre spool. Leave the coating where you want to retain stiffness; removing a short section creates a supple hinge point. This lets you position the transition between stiff and supple material yourself. Check the coating after tying and test the connection before using the rig.
A fixed length for the stiff section
The Super Stiff Link is listed here in 6.5 and 9.5 cm, alongside the 16.5 cm Stiff Link. These fluorocarbon components provide a premade starting point. Choose the length for the complete setup, including the hook section still to be added. The shortest link therefore does not automatically produce the shortest finished rig; connections and hinge points count too.
