Carp Landing Nets: essential for safe and successful landings
A sturdy carp landing net is part of the basic equipment for carp fishing. Not only because it is mandatory to carry a suitable landing net on many waters, but especially to be able to land your catch safely and fish-friendly. Carps are powerful and heavy fish, and require a net specially designed for this species.
Why a special carp landing net?
A carp net is usually large, deep, and equipped with a soft net structure. This prevents damage to the slime layer, scales, and fins of the fish. In addition, the net is strong enough to safely guide large fish without tearing or sagging. Preferably choose a net of 42 inches or larger, and for fishing really large carp, 46 inches can be even better. Depth is just as important: this keeps the fish calm during unhooking.
Handle, spreader block and net float
Most carp landing nets consist of three parts: a long handle, a spreader block, and the net itself. The handle is often extendable or two-piece, convenient for transport and use from a boat. The spreader block must be sturdy and easy to detach, so you can easily handle the net when lifting the fish out of the water. Never use the handle as a lever with heavy fish, but support the arms with two hands. A net float prevents the net from sinking during the fight and is recommended for every solo angler.
Rubber and foldable models
Rubber coated nets are becoming increasingly popular. They are fish-friendly, odorless, and durable. In addition, there are foldable landing nets that are ideal for mobile use or limited space on the bank. Think, for example, of carp fishing from a boat or in winter when compactness is important.
