Shads for perch, zander and pike
Shads are soft plastic baitfish imitations and one of the most versatile lures for predator fishing. They work for perch, zander, pike and other predators, whether you fish from the bank, boat or belly boat.
How to fish with shads
The classic setup is a shad on a jighead. Cast out, let it sink and retrieve with short lifts so the lure hops over the bottom. This is especially effective for zander and perch. Larger shads can be fished higher in the water column for pike.
Choose size, colour and tail action
Small shads are ideal for perch and finesse fishing, medium sizes work well for zander, and larger models target pike. Natural colours are strong in clear water; bright colours help in murky water. Paddle tails create strong vibration, while slimmer tails give a subtler action.
