Fishing sinkers, sinker substitutes and bait cages for every fishery
Whether you fish with the bobber , for carp with a method feeder or from the beach for flatfish, a good weight on your line is crucial. Without sinkers, you simply do not reach the right depth or stability of your rig. Fortunately, there is a suitable weight, sinker alternative or bait cage available for every fishing technique.
Fishing sinkers for different applications
Fishing sinkers come in all shapes and weights, tailored to your fishery. For the Pole rod you use small clip-on sinkers of a few grams, while at sea you easily need 300 grams of sinkers for wreck fishing. When beach fishing, a paternoster rig with sufficient sinkers ensures that your line lies neatly on the bottom. For carp anglers or method feeder anglers, a heavier and stable sinker weight is needed to present the bait tightly on the bottom.
Sinker substitutes: fish-friendly and effective
Sinkers are harmful to the environment, which is why more and more environmentally friendly alternatives are available. Think of stone weights for carp anglers, or tungsten weights for finesse techniques such as dropshotting. Tungsten is heavier and harder than sinkers, which results in smaller weights and more sensitivity. Iron and copper are also increasingly used as sinker substitutes.
Do you use a bobber? Then pay close attention to the weighting. Too little sinker and the bobber lies flat, too much and it sinks. Always make sure you have enough soft clip-on sinkers with you, and regularly check during fishing if everything is still correct.
Bait cages and method feeders
For feeder anglers, bait cages are an indispensable part of the equipment. The shape and weight of the cage determine how it behaves in the water. If you fish in flowing water, choose a heavier bait cage. For long casts, use a cage with tapered sinkers. This is aerodynamic and stable in the air. Flat sinkers, on the other hand, stay better in flow or on a slope.
Method feeders are a popular variant of the traditional bait cage. They are ideal for carp fishing and combine feed and hook bait in a compact way. Often you use a feed mold to quickly make a perfectly shaped feed block around the cage. The inline system ensures direct hooking on a bite.
