Use creature baits, shads, or worms. These baits work exceptionally well with the Tokyo Rig, mimicking prey like crayfish and small fish.

Opt for cylindrical or teardrop-shaped weights based on the fishing conditions. Lighter weights (5-10g) work well in shallow waters, while heavier weights (15-20g) are ideal for deeper or faster-moving waters.

Choose strong offset hooks to keep your bait weedless. Hook sizes 2/0 to 4/0 are ideal for medium-sized baits, while 4/0 to 6/0 are perfect for larger softbaits.

Strong swivels and split rings are essential for constructing a stable and durable Tokyo Rig. Choose swivels capable of withstanding the strength of large predators and split rings that can securely attach the offset hook and weight.

Fluorocarbon leader is critical for its invisibility underwater. Use a diameter of 0.25-0.35 mm for optimal abrasion resistance and natural bait presentation.

A medium to medium-heavy rod with fast action is perfect for this rig. A length of 7 to 8 feet (2.1 to 2.4 meters) provides ample control over the bait and powerful hooksets.
