CHARACTERISTICS OF LIPLESS CRANKBAITS
Lipless crankbaits are distinguished by their unique construction and action. They have a compact, often diamond-shaped body that vibrates considerably when reeled in. This is due to the lack of a diving blade, giving them a zigzagging motion that attracts pike. Many of these lures contain internal rattles that produce extra sound to lure predatory fish from afar.
HOW TO USE LIPLESS CRANKBAITS
There are several techniques for fishing lipless crankbaits, making them very versatile:
- Standard Reel-in: Cast out, lower the lure briefly and then turn it in steadily. The natural action of the crankbait does most of the work.
- Stop & Go: Add pauses to your cast-in action. Lower the crankbait during the pause, which often provokes a take.
- Over Vegetation: In summer and autumn, you can effectively guide these crankbaits over aquatic plants. Give a tug on your rod when the lure hits the plants; this imitates escaping prey.
WHEN AND WHERE TO USE
Lipless crankbaits are especially effective in the early seasons when pike are active and hunting for prey. These lures are ideal for exploring large water surfaces and can be used in both shallow and deep water, depending on the retrieve speed and angle of the rod. Their versatility and ability to quickly cover a lot of water make them excellent for 'power fishing' strategies.
ADVANTAGES OF LIPLESS CRANKBAITS
- Versatility: Suitable for different water depths and conditions.
- Great attraction: The sound and vibration attract pike, even at longer distances.
- Easy to use: Although effective in specialised techniques, they do not require complex skills to be successful.
